Priscilla R.

I met Priscilla in New York in May of 1988. She was the recently hired executive secretary of the Mystery Writers of America, and Becca — about to turn two — and I flew in from Germany for the International Crime Writers Congress, which Priscilla had been instrumental in organizing. We hit it off, and have remained friends ever since. In fact, when a nasty power struggle within the MWA resulted in Priscilla's being replaced, I resigned from the organization in protest.

This picture was taken in May of 2003. Michelle and I were in New York for SURTEX, a design trade show she goes to, and we met Priscilla at Gus's Place in Greenwich Village for dinner. You can't really tell from the picture, but dinner was al fresco — our table is actually outside the restaurant, on the sidewalk. It was a lovely summery evening, and we ate mussels and calamari and souvlaki, drank retsina and had ourselves a great time.

Return to Friends.
