This is my second appearance in an anthology featuring members of the Chesapeake Chapter of Sisters in Crime. (The first one, "The Supreme Art of War," was in Fur, Feathers, and Felonies, which came out in 2018.)
This story has a checkered history. It started out as a collaboration I was going to write with the great Bill Pronzini, but we wound up disagreeing about the direction it ought to go in, so he wrote his version and I wrote mine. In the original, the game being played was chess. In Bill's version, the game was dropped altogether, and in mine I changed it from chess (which I don't play) to cribbage (which I do).
The book was published by Wildside Press in October 2020. You can order the trade paperback here.
