"The Murders on Juniper Street"

written by Lone Theils

"Lone Theils spent sixteen years as a foreign correspondent in London and made her fiction debut with Fatal Crossing (2015) featuring journalist Nora Sand; the book was published in fifteen countries and developed into a TV series. Translator Josh Pachter has contributed stories from eight languages to EQMM —- and counting!"

I think it was at Malice Domestic that I met Julie Hastrup, an American woman who's married to a Danish man and who in 2025 moved with her husband from the US to Denmark. I asked Julie if she might be able to connect me with a Danish crime writer, and she put me in touch with Lone Theils, who sent me "The Murders on Juniper Street," which was easy and fun to translate -- and which became the first of my translations new EQMM editor Jackie Sherbow accepted for the magazine ... and, as she noted in her introduction to the story, my eighth translated language! (Number nine -- Finnish -- would follow in the very next issue....)
