"The Adventure of the Black-and-Blue Carbuncle"

My first Puzzle Club pastiche, "A Study in Scarlett!," appeared in the May/June 2019 issue of EQMM. The second one, "The Adventure of the Red Circles," was published eight months later, in the January/February 2020 issue. "The Adventure of the Black-and-Blue Carbuncle," third in the series of five, came out at the end of 2020, in the November/December issue.

This one was enormous fun to write. I love a good pun -- and I love a bad one even more! -- and this story includes a number of bad ones. The solution to the mystery is, I think, particularly satisfying, and the last line of the story is a very close paraphrase of the last line of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle."
